How they're alike

Kindroid and Nomi are closer to each other than to most companion apps. In both, you create your companion: you choose their personality, backstory and look, and the relationship grows from there. Both remember what you share over long periods, both offer voice calls and pictures, both let several companions talk in a group chat, and both are for adults only, on the web and in iPhone and Android apps.

Memory

Memory is Nomi's reputation. It describes short, medium and long-term memory, and its users often talk about companions recalling details from months earlier. Kindroid's memory is just as deliberate: a backstory and key memories you write, long-term recall of past conversations and a longer window of recent messages for subscribers. Both are well above average. If memory is the single thing you care about most, many people lean toward Nomi.

Voice, video and images

Both apps offer voice calls. Kindroid goes further with live video calls, where you see your companion's face as they talk, plus selfies and short video selfies. Nomi offers selfies, a newer image system for detailed appearances, and AI video generation of your companion.

Group chats and friends

Both apps let several of your companions share a group chat. Kindroid also has "Rooms", a beta feature that puts you, your friends and their companions into one shared conversation.

Privacy and age

This is where the two differ most on paper. Kindroid says chats are encrypted in storage and in transit, that support staff can't browse them, and it backs its 18+ rule with age checks, including a Yoti selfie or ID check for flagged accounts. Nomi asks for your date of birth at sign-up, says it doesn't sell personal information, and lets you delete your account in settings, with data removed within about 28 days. Content and safety

Kindroid openly allows explicit adult roleplay and publishes clear "red lines". Nomi markets "unfiltered chats". Both point people to crisis help: Kindroid shows resources such as the 988 Lifeline after repeated detections, and Nomi says it links California users to crisis services when self-harm comes up.

Which should you choose?

• Choose Kindroid if you want the most control, live video calls, shared rooms with friends, and clearer privacy and age protections.
• Choose Nomi if memory and emotional depth matter most, or you'd like AI-generated videos of your companion.
