Is Kindroid safe? Privacy, age checks and content, explained

Privacy: who can see your chats?
Kindroid says your chats, voice, selfies and memories are encrypted in storage and in transit. That protects them from outsiders, but it isn't end-to-end encryption, and Kindroid says so plainly: the company can decrypt content when it has to.
It's specific about when. Customer support staff can't browse your chats. If its automated safety system flags something, a member of its trust and safety team can review the flagged excerpt, but only if you appeal a decision and consent to the review. Content can also be decrypted when the law requires it.
Kindroid's privacy policy says it doesn't sell or share your personal data. Its terms let it use content that has been stripped of identifying details, and the policy doesn't say whether chats are used to train its AI or offer a way to opt out. If that matters to you, it's worth asking Kindroid directly.
Age checks
Kindroid is for adults only, and it does more than ask. Starting a subscription or trial counts as an age check. For free accounts, a background system estimates whether an account might belong to someone under 18, and flagged accounts can't continue until they verify, either by subscribing or through Yoti, a third-party service that offers a selfie age estimate or an ID check. Kindroid says it only receives a pass or fail, and Yoti deletes the images afterwards.

What content is allowed?
Kindroid allows explicit adult roleplay, fictional violence, horror and dark themes. It draws three "red lines": real plans to harm yourself, using the AI to plan real harm to others, and any sexual depiction of minors, which it says a stated age of 18+ doesn't excuse. Its moderation is automated, warns first and only locks an account if the behaviour continues. People who'd rather avoid explicit content entirely may prefer an app that is non-explicit by design.
What happens in a crisis?
Venting and talking about hard feelings don't count as violations on Kindroid. If its system repeatedly detects that someone may be at real risk of harming themselves, it shows crisis resources, including the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the US and the Crisis Text Line, and it can pause normal conversation until the person reaches out to Kindroid. Kindroid is clear that it isn't an emergency service. If you or someone you know is in danger, call 988 in the US or your local emergency number.
Deleting your data
You can delete a single Kin or your whole account, and Kindroid lets you export your data every 30 days. Its policy says it keeps some limited account and payment records for legal reasons after deletion.
